How My iPhone and Mac Usage Affects My Daily Life

Hey friends! In the 21st century, technologies have been a big part of our daily lives and as a Malaysian, if I walk into the subway of Kuala Lumpur,

I’d bet my last dollar that at least 7 out of 10 people inside are glued to their phones or electronic devices.

Yep, I’m actually one of them too. I’m practically attached to my phone and my laptop all day, which is also what inspired me to carry out the analysis in this article. Being a data head myself, I thought it would be interesting to pull some personal data from my iPhone and Mac to see what stories they might tell.

Here’s the data I looked at:

Number of Steps

Phone Screen Time

Entertainment Screen Time (Youtube etc.)

Social Screen Time (Instagram, Facebook, X etc.)

Productivity Screen Time (Gmail, Medium, Substack etc.)

Number of Pickups

Number of Notifications

Mac Screen Time

AirPods Average Audio Levels

Before we move on, you should know that I scraped the daily data for these variables for only a week. That’s because I couldn’t find a way to automate the scraping process from Apple devices to files readable by Python. But otherwise, let’s dive in!
