How I Got Into Data Engineering

In the world of data, we often hear tales of high-flying graduates with degrees in Computer Science landing impressive gigs at tech giants. But let’s flip the script. Here I am, a Data Engineer who found his purpose in a health-tech company, with a somewhat unconventional pathway into the field.

Take a step back and imagine this — four companies, three years, and a whole lot of data. It’s been quite the ride, and not just a linear one plotted on a graph.

There are nuggets of wisdom to be found in the most unlikely places, and this journey taught me that education isn’t the be-all and end-all. Even though almost all my colleagues have had Master’s or Ph.D. degrees, I’m still working alongside them with a Junior College degree.

Then there’s the purpose. It’s critical, but oh boy, is it elusive… I thought many times, that I made the correct decision by following money or ex-colleagues, but if the work isn’t motivating you, it’s better to find a new environment that truly makes you feel like you have an impact.

So strap in, folks. Let’s uncover the world of data engineering, shattering some preconceptions, and exploring the twists and turns of my journey.

Visit Now
