Hinamatsuri and ikigai.
<p>Momo no Sekku 桃の節句 is one of the five Sekku celebrations observed in Japan. With the exception of January 7th (1/7), all other Sekku fall on odd-numbered months and dates. All of these Sekku have meanings and ties to Japanese food traditions.</p>
<p><strong>January 7th (1/7) — JinJitsu no Sekku 人日の節句 — People’s Day.</strong></p>
<p>I’m not sure if it’s still practiced, but there used to be a tradition of eating Nanakusa (seven herbs) porridge, containing shepherd’s purse, parsley, gogyo, chickweed, hotokenoza, suzuna, and suzushiro. It is said to have been eaten to recover from the weakened stomach caused by New Year’s celebrations and feasts.</p>
