What Hiking 6,592 Miles Does To The Body

<p>I hiked 6,592 miles around the coast of Great Britain in 385 days. I wanted the challenge, and I pushed myself. My body changed, and endured. Hiking 20&ndash;30 mile (30&ndash;50km) days or more in all weather and seasons took its toll, especially in the pathless wilderness of the Scottish west coast.</p> <p>Before I started, I was afraid of old injuries reoccurring.</p> <p>On wet winter days, or when I pushed myself, my tibia would ache where it fractured a year before, my right leg tightened as the walk went on and something like sciatica would catch me off guard.
