Taylor Swift Songs as Jewish Holidays — by Hannah Keselman

As someone who listened to over 10,000 minutes of Taylor Swift in 2022, (a time that amounts to a full week’s worth of music), I feel supremely qualified to discuss her discography. I recognize too, that much like Swift herself, I go through eras of her music. Oftentimes, the album or song I choose to listen to at any given moment depends on the season, the weather, or even just my mood. I am not the only fan who feels this way, that each Taylor Swift song corresponds to a certain category of emotion or aspect of existence. A simple scroll on TikTok, or “SwiftTok” as its fandom subculture space has been named, shows an endless number of videos matching Taylor Swift songs to zodiac signs, fictional characters, and other, increasingly more random, categories.
