Abortion had just been all but outlawed in Texas, including no exceptions for cases of rape. A journalist asked the governor how could he ignore the plight of rape victims who became pregnant after being assaulted.
Abbott answered with: "Rape is a crime and Texas will work tirelessly to make sure we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas.."
