How the Agony of Winter Can Become Your Greatest Teacher

There’s value, I think, in winter. There’s no better teacher than the cold. I grew up to become a traveler, and I never once had to abandon a journey because I wasn’t prepared for the climate or the terrain. I’m from the land of snow, that means I’m ready for anything. I moved with my wife from Lima, Peru to Wisconsin in November of 2009. Obama was in the White House and it felt as if the nation had turned a corner. I don’t feel that anymore. Now it seems as if I condemned my family to a front row seat to witness the end of the world.
