I Have My Own Journey: My Anger About Having White Privilege
<p>My grandparents, who worked in the thriving auto industry of Detroit where I was born and reared, left a lasting impression on the way I saw the world. Our family was peacefully tucked away in a neighborhood that reflected our own racial identity..WHITE PEOPLE! (side note: we grew up in the outskirts of predominantly white neighborhoods, not specifically Detroit) My Grandparents that worked in these factories tended to be quite racist, or at least make inappropriate remarks.</p>
<p>When I turned 13, my mom received a job offer in Charlotte North Carolina. I was devastated to leave my friends, but thought “how difficult or different this experience would be” But when we relocated to North Carolina in 1992, EVERYTHING was different. My first time living in a neighborhood with a sizable black population, the relocation was a culture shock for me.</p>
