The Good City
<p>As I’ve come to experience them, having lived and worked my entire life in the New York Metropolitan region, cities are a reflection of the nature of man, good and bad, and meeting the commonality of needs amongst a diverse set of people is the foundational challenge of a well-functioning “good” city.</p>
<p>In Chapter 6 of her seminal work “The Death and Life of Great American Cities,” Jane Jacobs states, “A city’s very wholeness in bringing together people with communities of interest is one of its greatest assets, possibly the greatest.” Still, the question arises about what elements are needed to support, develop, and capitalize on those assets. Specifically, what are the qualities of a good city?</p>
