Glasgow — Catfish and The Bottlemen

Released on the 13th of May 2016 from the album ‘The Ride’, Glasgow is a rare acoustic song by the band, but when they do them, they’re crafted to excellence! Telling a story throughout the song about his night out with someone he has a deep affection for, Van McCann portrays how his feelings gradually damage his and the receiver of this song’s night.

A pleasant guitar picking riff opens this tune, displaying an exceptionally melodic sound. It sounds pleasant the way both bass and higher notes are in unison. One of my favourite styles of guitar playing is the picking technique, making me have an affinity for this song. The riff advances into the verse, where you feel like you’re involved with the writer in the song. Using the second-person narrator, you feel as though he is singing to you. In the pre chorus, this is where we see the chord progression — which the picking pattern is following — change.
