OUR NATIVE FRIENDS ARE SUFFERING

This is my friend Petuuche, an Acoma Indian who lives on the Res outside Albuquerque. He and all his fellow Native Americans are suffering tremendously during the pandemic. They have a much more severe lockdown and many more restrictions than even the most severely shut-down areas of the rest of the States.

Now, here in the fall, they are not allowed outside of the Res, just like in the beginning of the pandemic in early spring. That’s when people were trying to smuggle out family members in trunks of cars or under blankets, to do things like simply shop or visit non-Res friends, because restrictions are so severe. The native people have their own police system and they are very highly concerned about the spread of this coronavirus. Neighbors are only allowed to visit other neighbors by waving to them as they walk along the road to their own house.
