Chapter 7: Food Preparation

The main concern is fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s a good idea not to have any at all with you when you cross the border. If you do, South Australians are generally nice and friendly so they’ll probably just smile and ask you politely to get rid of it in the helpfully provided quarantine bins.

Try that on the Western Australian border and there’s a fair to good chance you’ll be shot. These people are stuck out in a border post in the very definition of the middle of nowhere. It is hot. It is boring. They have nothing better to do than to search your vehicle from top to bottom looking for that errant grape your kid dropped down the side of the seat.
