4 Reasons Why Men Should Be Feminists

I get why so many men want to stay clear of feminism. You might think that feminists don’t care about men, or when they do, it’s mainly to lift their moods by beating us up. The way many of them talk to us certainly doesn’t make feminism seem very appealing.

And yet, I continue, somewhat cautiously, to call myself a feminist. I hope that after reading this article, you might see why — and consider it, too.

Preamble

You might have a bad impression of feminism: there’s no way I’m joining those bitchy, entitled man-haters who have zero respect and a problem with everything I do!

I mean, I get it, I have joked numerous times that the only reason I stick around is that I have Stockholm Syndrome.

Because sure, some are just like that. But the same way as when feminists make sweeping statements about men being toxic, patriarchal, exploitative abusers who see women only as fancy sex toys, and you want to scream: #NotAllMen!, I must tell you: #NotAllFeminists.

In fact, only a few. Most men might make some mistakes but are overall more likely to be confused than evil. Moreover, for the most part, the reason why we do things that hurt others is because we are acting out our own fears and frustrated needs, and we don’t know how to say that, deep inside, we are hurting.

And likewise, most feminists are equally good people and make just as many mistakes. For the most part, they hurt us because they themselves have been hurt by men and they are acting out their frustration and pain. They have many fears and frustrated needs, too.
