The Disparity Between Fear And Progress

Myown conflict with authority began at an early age, when I realized pretty quickly that adults were not only quite fallible, but often incompetent as well. This can be a frightening thing to learn as a child, but I was not to be deterred. I simply assumed I would need to care for myself, make my own appraisals, and proceed with purpose. It has served me well.

My parents gave me a solid foundation for exploration and discovery. I was raised in a safe space where I understood the ground rules and believed my parent’s authority to be legitimate. They were not capricious or quick to anger. We all followed the same rules, and I believed the rules would not change over time.
