I’ve always been fascinated by Mowalola Ogunlesi, the Nigerian-born fashion designer based in London, known for her bold and innovative approach to fashion. Her collections have consistently pushed boundaries and challenged conventional norms in the fashion world.
Mowalola Ogunlesi’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, titled “Crash” was eagerly anticipated. It promised to be another display of her unapologetic creativity and bold design choices.
However one look from the collection left me absolutely shocked. The outfit featured the Saudi flag as a mini skirt with the Shahadah, the Islamic declaration of faith, prominently displayed. This design decision was highly offensive and culturally insensitive to not only me but the entire muslim community.
