Fabulous seventeen

Like every other teenager, every new year is a whole lot of expectations and dreams ( well, you see a thing girl must dream). The whole idea ( I hope I speak for other growing teenagers) of a new age is to celebrate with family and friends ( most especially) and sharing of gifts. Right!

But hold up, sometime ago, someone asked me a question. He said “ How do you feel now that your birthday is approaching?”. A question that had me thinking. How do I really feel?. He also said “once you celebrate your 18th birthday, you will have a sense of accomplishment".

As a young growing teenager, I always want to be seen as someone successful and fulfilled. Then again, I told myself I can’t wait to be 18 to feel accomplished. Right! But the question is ;what can I do to feel accomplished?. Yes ,I am growing, yeah ,I’m seventeen. But do I really feel accomplished?.

Now I looked back to my teenage years ; from my 13th year till now . I now realize that being accomplished isn’t about the latest phones , clothes and every other fashion accessories. Being accomplished isn’t about the cars I have, the cars I drive or the cars I owned. It isn’t about the hair I make, the school I attend and the house I live in. No it isn’t about that !

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, accomplishment is proficient as the result of practice or training in a particular field. Then this got me thinking, what area of life projects my proficiency?. What can I do confidently without being scared. What can I do on my own without being told to do?. Lastly, what have I gotten out of the things that I can confidently do?.

Website
