Myrlie Evers-Williams: More than just “the widow of…”

With the imminent approach of the 60th anniversary of her husband, Civil Rights activist, Mississippi NAACP Field Secretary, Medgar Evers’ assassination, Myrlie Evers-Williams is once again being positioned under the media spotlight commemorating the tragic event. As always, she graciously acknowledges and accepts the appreciative accolades and memories of her slain husband, and seemingly never tires of responding to the same questions she has answered numerous times since that awful night. Even at the age of 90, this brilliant charismatic woman continues to hold fast to her activism and the maintenance of her husband’s legacy.

I first became aware of Myrlie Evers in June of 1963 when I was a teenager watching the evening news on television with my parents and siblings in our home in Detroit.
