Grandma Had a Thing for Naturalist Euell Gibbons

My grandmother and the naturalist author Euell Gibbons exchanged letters. This latest revelation came from my mother.

“Oh, wow! I would love to see those. We could publish them,” I said to my mom over the phone.

“I don’t think I have them,” Mom said. Grandma had kept some personal items in wooden dresser drawers that got left behind when the attorney sold her house.

The three adult sisters had done everything they could to ensure a dignified and loving end to Grandma’s life, caring for her in their homes until home care was no longer possible. It wasn’t easy watching their mother slip away or saying goodbye to their childhood home. Losing Grandma’s dresser, for example, still breaks my mom’s heart.
