Am I saving enough to retire?

Retirement is the ever-elusive goal. You might say to yourself, “Self, I’m living comfortably now, as a 25-year-old adult, on my $50,000 annual salary. I’d like to maintain this standard of living when I’m old, too.” But the effects of inflation compound; because the worth of each dollar decreases each year, when you retire at 67 years old, today’s $50,000 can balloon to about $180,000 in future-dollars, depending on the actual rate of yearly inflation. So how do we conceptualize how much we actually need to retire and if we’re saving enough? To demystify this, I employed the traditional market-driven retirement approach, factored in inflation, and converted the final result into a more understandable metric: Annual Retirement Salary in Today’s Dollars.
