The Engebretson family’s Christmas Tree Hunt Turned into a Tragedy
<p>Derrick was a nature-loving third-grader with brown hair who excelled at mushroom picking and enjoyed joining the family on hunting trips to search for black-tailed deer, bobcat, and black bear. He also loved sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, and football, and even took a few swings with a golf club. The only time he would be indoors was at nightfall, when he preferred to watch animal shows on television.</p>
<p>The only things that scared Derrick were the dark and cougars. However, as the snow started to fall, he disappeared, and the family’s joyous tradition turned into a tragedy that left the community in shock. Despite extensive searches, no trace of Derrick was found, and his disappearance remains a mystery to this day.</p>
