Encountering the Gods

<p>The gods each appeared to me. (I didn&rsquo;t &ldquo;see&rdquo; them with my eyes, but I got mental impressions of what they looked like, and imagined myself welcoming them to a New Year&rsquo;s party in an outdoor temple.) Each one had a unique appearance: Nyx looked like a huge, looming dark figure, with her hair and cloak fanning out behind her into darkness. Her only discernible features were her eyes. Eyes opened up in her dark cloak like stars. Ouranos also looked like a starry sky, but male, and brighter, with stars spinning around him like the rings of a planet or a galaxy. Phanes appeared as a Biblically-accurate angel, more or less &mdash; bright, bright, bright, wings lined with eyes, a vertical third eye above his head. After a moment, he consolidated into the much more humanlike shape of Eros.
