Can you survive a total ego death?

<p>As the psychedelic renaissance is thriving and meditation retreats have gained some popularity, the term&nbsp;<em>ego death</em>&nbsp;has also entered the more common awareness. You might have come across people sharing their bizarre experiences on shroom trips or powerful changes to their mentality caused by intense contemplation. But what do these people mean when they say their ego&nbsp;<em>died</em>? And why are they so enthusiastic about it? Yet&nbsp;<em>death</em>&nbsp;does not sound fun at all&hellip;</p> <p>It is not easy to define such a fuzzy subjective feeling, even more so that people often find it&nbsp;<em>ineffable</em>. One thing, though, you could say about these non-egoic states is that there is some&nbsp;<strong>profound and startling change to the way you perceive your&nbsp;<em>self</em></strong>. Now, there are two commonly endorsed ways of thinking about the self. One of them is the&nbsp;<strong><em>narrative self</em></strong>&nbsp;standing for the narrative you create about yourself.
