Dōngzhi (Winter Solstice Day)

<p>First of all, I would like to thank you&nbsp;<a href="https://medium.com/@katiemichaelson" rel="noopener">Katie</a>&nbsp;again, for suggesting me to write a post sharing about the Chinese version of Thanksgiving Day = The Winter Solstice Day= Dōngzhi. (冬至）</p> <p>Let me explain briefly, this is the day with the longest night of the year, and Winter(Dōng) arrives(zhi) officially after this date. According to the ancient Chinese during the agricultural society, it is a day off for farmers (who work all year round) to enjoy a big feast with family.</p> <p>There will be some simple worship ceremonies at home, representing thanksgiving to the ancestor/nature of prosperity harvest in Winter, for everyone to have enough food &amp; profit of crops selling by the end of the year, so as to prepare a fruitful Lunar New Year followed by.
