The digital tools that have run my life in 2023

As with many of us, I rely on technology heavily in my day-to-day life. Whether that’s to ensure that I’m in the right place at the right time or to remember what needs doing, I have an app on my phone that helps me live my life more easily and more efficiently.

This article is designed to look at the main apps that I use and what they do.

Calendar: Fantastical

We may as well start with the controversial statement that (a) yes, I pay for a calendar and (b) yes, it stinks that they’ve hacked up their prices further this year.

I have a couple of months to decide whether I’ll renew my subscription, but in the meantime, I can say that Fantastical has probably been my most used app in 2023.

Not only does it manage multiple calendars efficiently, but it looks great and offers excellent NLP (that I believe is only bettered by Todoist).

The app now also offers the ability for users to send out a unique link to friends or colleagues to allow them to choose a suitable time for a meeting. Not only does this prevent a long email chain with various parties stating that they’re not available, but it also saves a subscription to a service like Calendly.

Task Management: Things3

I have several frustrations with Things3 and a wish list for new features that is as long as my arm. I’ve tried leaving other apps (most notably TickTick and Reminders), but I always come back.
