Denying Our Gay Reality in the Heart of Dixie
<p>My childhood home state of Alabama is attempting to give Florida a run for its money regarding which one can be the most socially regressive. For instance, just a minute ago <a href="https://www.alreporter.com/2023/09/04/clean-up-alabama-quotes-hitler-in-july-email/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">I read</a> that a group called “Clean Up Alabama” said this about their attempts to ban books:</p>

<p>This group apparently borrowed the Hitler line from a Moms For Liberty chapter in Indiana, so I guess the Hoosier state wants in on the regressive competition. They have a long way to go, I think. Have they heard of Ernst Rohm or pink triangles?</p>
<p><strong>Alabama keeps trying to pretend it believes in traditional values</strong>, whatever that/they might be. It has redrawn boundaries to keep the votes from Black Alabamians from mattering. It wants abortion outlawed as much as it possibly can be so that women can be kept in their particular biospheres. It wants marriage to be between one man and one woman as dictated by the standards of hereditary wealth. It’s also trying to keep trans youth from obtaining needed medication to help them along the path to deciding whether or not to fully transition.</p>
<p><strong>And I wonder when Alabama’s leadership will declare that there is no gay culture, or actually any gay people living in the state?</strong></p>
