Decades of Neglect and Repression: Unraveling the Root Causes of Clashes at Eritrean Festivals

<p>In recent events that have shocked the world, clashes erupted between anti-Eritrean authoritarian government protestors and organizers of a festival associated with the regime in Eritrea. Thousands of Eritrean youth in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the United States, and Canada showed up to stop festivals organized by groups affiliated with the regime in Eritrea, many of them resulting in clashes, tearing down of tents and some stabbings as well.
