The Dark Side of Dark Ages

The Middle Ages, often called the “Dark Ages,” is a time many think was filled with decline and darkness after the fall of the Roman Empire. But this name isn’t fair or accurate. The idea started with Petrarch, an Italian writer who felt that the world had gone downhill since the days of the Greeks and Romans.

However, modern historians disagree with this bleak view. They prefer to call this period the Early Middle Ages and point out that it was a time of growth and change, not just decline.
