Diary of a Cycling Instructor

October is slowly fading away and with it, the UK’s annual Black History Month bonanza. I’ve always been of the opinion that we don’t need just the one month to celebrate black culture. Events throughout the year could help foster a better understanding of the contribution made by Black people in shaping the British identity.

A good example of this is the mural on Winkfield Road, Wood Green, north London. celebrating the late poet and activist Maya Angelou. Unveiled in September last year, it didn’t have to wait until the arrival of the tenth month of the year to make its presence known.

Website
