The Mystery of the Costa Rica Stones

It was in the 1930s that workers, hacking through the jungle to clear land for new banana plantations in southern Costa Rica, came across some almost spherical stone balls, varying in size.

One thought that immediately came to mind was that these spheres must contain hidden treasure, so holes were drilled into them and dynamite inserted to blow them apart, to no avail.

However, it was also soon realised that this discovery was of scientific interest, possibly relating to the work of early inhabitants of the regions.
