Beyond empty promises, it doesn’t look like these corporations are making many tangible differences to curb their own environmental impact, with tech giants like Microsoft, Google and Amazon pledging away a little more than an empty promise. They are, however, pledging to join the AI rat race, with the promise of overtaking the ever-growing ChatGPT being the end goal. This, in itself is rather alarming, given the unseen workings needed to keep ChatGPT as powerful as it is. Adding more platforms to the expansive AI landscape, especially when these platforms would be heralded by the biggest culprits in the fight against climate change, would have consequences that could be irreversible.
