Hacking Configurable Art

If you knew me, you would know that I am a huge fan of street-art, and fond of the printing process in general. While browsing Instagram one day, I discovered the work of Felipe Pantone . I was astonished by the way he plays with colors and the codes of our digital age.

His recent work is based around the idea of interactive art, something I really love. It’s about playing around with an object (for example multiple layers of colored acrylic) to create multiple configurations of an artwork. It is art that is not frozen in one state, but rather changing with your mood and the interaction you’ll have with it. He founded an ‘entity’ based around this idea, Configurable, which he described as Felipe Pantone Studio opening up as a producer and distributor of art editions.

They made art from modular furnituresilk scarf, to Modular Art Systems (in collaboration with artists like Vhils and Futura). His last print, Integration System P#01, is based around an app that allows you to create your own variation of an artwork:

I really liked the idea of configurable art ! But, when reading ‘interaction’, something clicked in my brain: interaction implies hacking, right ?
