Notes on the first El Clasico of the season

Real Madrid came from behind to beat Barca 2–1 at the Estadio Olimpico in Barcelona and reclaim top spot in La Liga, ahead of Girona on goals difference. These are some of my scattered thoughts:

Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

1. Game of two halves. Or more accurately, three quarters. Barca were the better side for two-thirds of the game without creating many clear chances — they scored their only big chance of the game. Real Madrid meanwhile were aggressive in spots without causing Barca much trouble. Rodrygo could have squared the ball to Vini early in the second half but that was about it. Everything changed with Bellingham’s first goal, and from then it became a more even affair. Bellingham of course would go on to snatch a late, barely deserved winner. As we are now used to, it was not a high quality El Clasico and, based on chances created, a draw would have been the fair result.
