Delhi- A City for Eternity

Growing up in the idyllic hill town of Dehradun, some 250 kilometers away from the big city of Delhi, in the 1970s and 80s, life went on at a very relaxed and even pace. The Doon valley, nestled between the Mussoorie and Shivalik hills was a picturesque little town with an agreeable climate and some really good schools, including the one that I went to which was run by Irish brothers of the Patrician order.

I would often travel to Delhi with my parents during school vacations visiting relatives on both my father’s and mother’s sides. The small boy that I was, I would quite get taken in by the wide roads and the few high rises buildings that the city then had as there was nothing like that back home in Dehradun. I would carry back happy memories of the times I spent with my cousins, playing cricket or the newly arrived video games.
