An age passes; The Montreal Gazette on the chopping block.

<p>As long as I could read, which is a very long time, I&rsquo;ve read the daily newspaper. First it was the Montreal Star, a good-sized paper that used to have two editions, morning and afternoon. Then it dropped one edition, and then in the late seventies it was hit by a strike. The Star tried to come back, but the Gazette, which until then had held back from going after The Star`s readership, saw the strike go on for too long and went into action. It got thicker, had more features, and in short time the Star folded.
