2023 Global Anti-Racism Champions Award

I came across this on the US State Department website—the Global Anti-Racism Champions (GARC) Award. Established in 2023, this prestigious accolade serves as a testament to the power of collective action and the unwavering commitment of individuals who stand against the tide of systemic racism, discrimination, and xenophobia. Cool huh? At the heart of this initiative is the shared goal of dismantling the belief of whiteness or whatever racist belief a society holds and fostering a more inclusive and equitable world. I listed this year’s winners at the end of the article.

Should we have a State and national version of this? Should we reward people for being antiracist? Would it help move the needle in a positive way? What about those who are under the knee? What is their reward for having the resilience to survive genocide? Right now, the reward seems to be more genocide. Why not champion people in our community who openly promote and work towards anti-racism in all its forms?
