Inktober Tips: How to Make it Through This Challenge

In case you’re not familiar with it, Inktober is an online drawing challenge created by the illustrator Jake Parker. The purpose of this challenge is to create one ink drawing everyday during the month of October. This is not only very fun, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to create the habit of drawing consistently and improve your inking skills.

Here are my 5 tips to make it through Inktober:

1) Choose your favorite prompt list (or create your own):

Drawing is so much easier when we already know what to draw. Prompt lists prevent us from facing artblock and helps us create a more consistent work. Inktober has an official prompt list, but a lot of artists create their own ones. Do a little research on this hashtag on Instagram and I’m sure you’ll find a prompt list with a theme that you like and if you don’t, you can always create your own. In case you’re curious, I’m following @furrylittlepeach and #chilltober prompt lists. I couldn’t decide between the two of them, so I chose my favorite prompts from each of the two lists. Tell me which prompt list you’re following.

2) Plan your drawings beforehand:

Drawing everyday can be hard — especially if you’re not used to it yet. If you want to maximize your chances of finishing the challenge, plan ahead. Create thumbnails, sketch and even finish some drawings beforehand. This way you’ll have a drawing to share everyday even if you’re too busy or tired to draw. But if you skip one, two, three days… that’s okay too. This challenge is supposed to be fun, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Done is better than perfect!

Website
