How To Build the Confidence To Stand Alone and Feel Content

It’s okay to stand alone and be conspicuous.

To find acceptance in standing apart from the crowd, we must recognise our value and learn to be proud of who we are.

Do you follow the whisperings of your heart? Or do you allow other people to guide you?

I’ve never felt like I truly belong. I skirt around different sections of society, not quite merging into the masses, and am frequently viewed suspiciously as the non-conformist I am.

I could have twisted myself up and betrayed my inner yearnings to fit in with society. I could have stayed in an unhappy relationship, had children I didn’t want, remained in a job I had outgrown, and sleptwalk through a life of predictability and frustration.

But if we have to change ourselves for acceptance, surrendering our souls in the process, I question whether we will ever dance with that elusive happiness beast that all humans long to encounter.

Life can feel like walking through quicksand when you’re an outlier. But it’s us outliers that spark the flames in others. People who stand apart from the crowd represent the intersection of possibility and opportunity. They are pioneers of the mind and adventurers of the heart. We are not to be scorned but celebrated and encouraged for the harmony we bring.
