How an African Kingdom Resisted the Mighty British Empire

<p>On 4 July 1879, in the plains of Ulundi in South Africa, some 5,000 British soldiers were fighting 20,000 Zulus. Although outnumbered, the British had far superior weapons.</p> <p>The Zulu shields and spears were no match for the modern British artillery. Despite certain death and technological inferiority, the brave Zulus continued to pour in, attempting to reach the British lines for hand-to-hand combat.</p> <p>British guns slaughtered them mercilessly until no formidable resistance was left on the battlefield.
