Don’t You Think There’s Something Bigger Out There?

I never understood why so many Christians fixate on the need to believe in “something bigger.” They present this as a reason to believe in their preferred god(s). “Don’t you think there’s something bigger out there?” Yes, I do! Almost everything that’s “out there” is bigger than me. My family, neighborhood, town, county, state, and nation are all bigger. The planet I live on is bigger, as is the galaxy in which it resides. The universe containing this galaxy is so massive it is hard to comprehend. I have no trouble believing in any of these things. None of them require your preferred god(s).

The natural world in which I live is much bigger than me. I don’t have to get contemplative to realize this. All I have to do is walk outside and look around. I hear the many bird sounds, feel the breeze on my skin, and smell the trees. I am surrounded by a vast nature. I am an insignificant speck in this gigantic tapestry.
