Was the Knights of the Old Republic Remake Too Big To Succeed?

The idea of a video game remake is tricky. On the one hand, you have the golden opportunity to make a game for a new audience to enjoy, while at the same time lovingly tributing the material that many enjoyed in the first place. Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 are key examples of remakes done right.

But then you have the other hand, in which, well, things can go wrong. A vision is lost, someone tries to add something that wasn’t really necessary, or something falters in the quality, resulting in something that’s such a shambles that it actually insults the material it was based upon. Square Enix’s poor attempt to revive Secret of Mana comes to mind, along with the troubled (yet still popular) port of Silent Hill HD Collection, glitches and all.
