<p>Massachusetts in one of those states where you think first of its big city: &ldquo;The Hub&rdquo; &mdash; Boston. So in that sense it&rsquo;s like cities in several other states where the primate city dominates: New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix come to mind.</p> <p>Boston is the 21st largest city in the US. Oops, sorry! I meant to say it&rsquo;s the 11th largest. Correction! It&rsquo;s the 6th largest! No, wait! Actually all those statements are true.</p> <p>As we saw earlier, the legal City of Boston has 675,000 people &mdash; those who could vote for mayor &mdash; and it&rsquo;s the nation&rsquo;s 21st largest legal city. But Greater Boston, the Boston Metropolitan Statistical Area, is the nation&rsquo;s 11th largest metropolitan area.
