Can AI & VR be a better therapist for my family?

I belong to a small family and we usually are enough to take care of each other, since we live together. If any one family member happens to be unwell physically and mentally, the other family members chip in to pull them out of that state, for restoring the Home Sweet Home status quo. However, I have noticed that the family wellbeing largely depends upon us being together, which ensures a 24/7 support system for each one in the family.

I often talk to my friends who are unable to stay with their families because of jobs in locations away from home. They have a different story to tell. People at their home are fine, but sometimes they lack an empathetic ear to listen to their woes. I am not saying that my friends don’t take care of their parents, but the geographical distance does create a sort of gap where empathy falls into an abyss. Such a social setup can have immense mental toll on the minds of the elderly, and can affect their mental health severely.

So, how do we solve the issue, knowing that the youth will become increasingly mobile as new jobs shape up and more opportunities open up for youth in distant lands?
