Choice: Free Will experiment | Benjamin Libet | 1983 | San Francisco.

Do you believe that you have free will? That you can choose your actions and shape your destiny? If so, you may be surprised by a famous experiment that challenged this belief. It was the year 1983 when neuroscientist Benjamin Libet and his colleagues decided to experiment on the idea of free will.

The experiment was conducted at the University of California, San Francisco. They asked volunteers just like you to perform a simple task: flex their wrist or press a button at any time they want, freely choosing the moment of each action. They also asked them to note the exact time when they were consciously aware of the decision to move, using a fast-moving clock. At the same time, they measured the brain activity of the participants using EEG electrodes attached to their scalp.
