Why did Barça lose against UD Almería? Using Stats to Answer It
<p>On Thursday, February 23rd, Manchester United eliminated Barça from the Europa League. Being a lifelong Barça fan, it hurt. Only 3 days later, Almería was the one beating Futbol Club Barcelona by 1–0 in a match to forget.</p>
<p>If you watched the game, you already know why Almería won: Barça’s game was horrible. Almería scored during the first half on a counterattack (that’s basically what their way of playing was about) and used that score advantage to remain ultra-defensive during the rest of the game.</p>
<p>Barça couldn’t play as they wanted and kept basically putting crosses in hoping that Araújo, Lewandowski, or anyone else could put the ball into the box. Obviously, knowing how Barça plays, this wasn’t going to end up well. We are not Real Madrid.</p>
