The Parabolic Arc of Feminism

In May of 1869, anti-slavery and women’s rights activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth C. Stanton started the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA). The mission of the organization was to concretize women’s right to vote within the US constitution. Unfortunately, both women were unable to witness the fruits of their advocacy, as they both died before the ratification of the 19th US Amendment in 1920 — which finally gave the constitutional right for women to vote.

10 years after the formation of the NWSA — within my home country of Indonesia — a very special woman was born who would continue to spread the flames of emancipation throughout the globe.
