ANTI — CRISPR: A boon or a bane

Bacteria and bacteriophages (bacteria-attacking virus) have been battling each other for giga years now, with the two using multiple interesting mechanisms to fight. When their techniques were discovered, they were a marvel for biologists. But crucially, these discoveries played a role in advancing the human society. Bacteriophages taking over an entire population of bacteria through their lytic and lysogenic phases helped uncover how exactly viruses attack human cells. The bacteria guard themselves by using the CRISPR mechanism. CRISPR was instrumental towards the rise of the field of genetic engineering. But as of recent times, its counterpart anti-CRISPR is being analyzed for limiting gene edits while still advancing the human society.

Website
