Learning from Ancient Royalty

What can we learn from ancient practices involving kings and queens that would still be relevant today?

First, I think there was deep wisdom in having a division of symbolic relevance between queens and kings. Our choice of symbols strongly influences the culture and national character we end up with. A queen that represents the continuity, harmony and unity of the land helps people feel united and cared for.

Adding a king as a symbol of action and power against the forces of chaos gives a sense that the queen and all she stands for is protected. The queen can to stay focused on harmony and balance, with the king taking care of the necessary action and change. Bringing these two opposing sides together in a single ruler doesn’t do justice to either side. They can only keep each other in balance if they are both fully and separately personified.
