The Sahara Desert is a vast, arid region in North Africa that covers an area of over 9 million square kilometres (3.6 million square miles).
With its size and challenging environmental conditions, exploration in search of ancient civilisations and artefacts has naturally been a little difficult! In recent years though, several radar-based projects and studies have begun to change this.
Archaeologists have, for example, been able to use ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to search for ancient cities and settlements hidden beneath the Sahara’s sands.
