An analysis of Alex Dang’s poem “What kind of Asian are you?”

<p>The poem refers to the toil of second-generation Asian American immigrants and how they deal with stereotypes, micro-aggressions, marginalization, and systematic racism.</p> <p>The line &lsquo;what kind of Asian are you?&rsquo; diminishes people into objects in the eyes of a majority populace. It distributes people into groups by being concerned by their outward appearance.</p> <p>The line &lsquo;you want me to drive, how so?&rsquo; shows the willingness to conform to the majority group&rsquo;s expectations as not to be ostracized from a group.
