Designed as an Afterthought
<p>I browse YouTube sometimes. I am part of YouTube’s biggest demographic after all. The other day while on a YouTube excursion, I saw a video pop up in my recommendations. It was a video about the Boston Dynamics robot Atlas.</p>
<p>The presenter Cleo Abram asked a question: why are companies like Boston Dynamics, Tesla, Honda, and others designing robots with legs? The straightforward answer Boston Dynamics gave was “For me, legs are about access. Your opportunity to go more places is just better [with legs].” And from that, I took that our world is designed for things that walk.</p>
<p><strong>Ouch.</strong> I’ve never been slapped in the face with the fact this hard. I guess I was able to skirt around the fact with simple thoughts like — it would be nice if this store were accessible. It would be convenient if I didn’t have to search for an accessible entrance.</p>
